Hope For All Tribes

Every tongue, tribe and nation will sing the song of the Lord

We have been experiencing some incredible favor while organizing the Sturgis events to combat Suicide on the Pine Ridge and Rosebud Reservations.  I would like to share a few stories with you to show you how we’re tracking:

On a recent trip to the Black Hills, I sat next to a guy who was going to a funeral of one of his college basketball buddies who had committed suicide.  When he learned I was on my way to Sturgis to do some suicide prevention work and that one of the events we’ve planned is a basketball camp, he was very interested in our plans.  As a result of this “chance meeting” and conversation, this guy and two of his friends from Northern University are coming to join our outreach.  They will be working with Mirror Mirror, a suicide prevention team that goes into high schools.

Another blessing is how we’ve been given an incredible opportunity to do an event on the Buffalo Chip Campground, the premier concert venue at the Sturgis Rally, with over 100K people going through.  Some of the headliners are Aerosmith, Kid Rock, Credence Clearwater Revival, and Cheech and Chong.  In the middle of all this, we will have a booth and a stage for a couple of hours to present the struggles of the Lakota.   Native dancers will entertain and “Seventh Day Slumber”, a band that addresses the suicide issue, will play.  Check them out at www.youtube.com/watch?v=biQptQAi5Ug.

This could impact thousands.

Now listen to this:  We had prayed that Indian Motorcycles would embrace our cause, and God answered that prayer.  They are not only coming on board with the Suicide Rides for Hope, but are also helping sponsor the Crazy Horse Ride.  In addition to letting us set up a promotional booth at their trailer in the heart of the Sturgis event, they are also purchasing 300 commemorative T-Shirts from us as a donation to the cause.  God always does more than we ask or think!

We have been encouraged by many people and organizations, but one more I want to mention is the Sturgis chapter leader of the Christian Motorcycle Association, who is helping us organize both rides.

We believe we have been given the task to go after this giant, “Suicide”, and are praying to be shown the five stones that will take it down.  We know God ultimately wants to bring healing to Wounded Knee!

*We are still in need of some teams to pick up garbage and work security at the Buffalo Chip Campground.  This event could generate up to $600 per volunteer for your organization.  If you would like to put together a team or volunteer for our organization, please give us a call.

The following is an itinerary of activities, outreaches and scheduled events for this summer.   There will be an emphasis on Native American Indian outreach, addressing the suicide and poverty issues, especially on South Dakota reservations and towns, a region that has been cited as having some of the highest suicide rates per capita in America, along with the two poorest counties in North America.  We value your prayers and financial support as we press forward.

This last year I, Joshua Hanson director of Kingdom Promotions,
had the privilege of spending time in the Black Hills
and learning more about the Lakota People and their
dreams and struggles.   My partner Travis Vaad and his
wife Jenna from Strait Arrow Ministries have long
been aware of and interested in the history and heritage
of the Lakota Nation.  As both of our families and organizations
are focused on implementing programs and events that bring
healing and change, we can’t help but be moved by the
current situations.   From the high suicide rates to cases
of extreme poverty, drug and alcohol addiction, diabetes
as well as political atrocities like Wounded Knee Massacre,
Leonard Peltier case, the many broken treaties, etc.  We are
hearing the cry of the Lakota People and our hearts are broken.

Our hearts have been churning with ideas of how we could be a blessing and impart hope to those who need encouragement.  We would like to partner with the Lakota People to raise awareness of the needs on the Pine Ridge and Rosebud Reservations.
